Pensive Vivifier – KOSMOSE –> Love is Abundant

The collective Pensive Vivifier focuses on merging the digital and physical worlds into immersive multi-disciplinary work. At The Grey Space, they explored which digital principles can be applied to directing and performance, how the body physically brings digital content to life, and how a single work can be translated into three different contexts: from black box to gallery, to club, and back again to the black box. At the core lies the work KOSMOSE—a multimedia project based on the idea that the entire cosmos is one symbiosis.

Pensive Vivifier

Pensive Vivifier is an art collective consisting of Janne Kosmos, Tes Wolters Bos and Silva Westera. Their practice is always expanding and incorporating new elements and disciplines to reflect on identity, transformation and the fragmented and saturated world on our screens. Fluid movement, intuition and curiosity guide them to combine installations, videos, music compositions and performances. They apply a musical approach to structure and practice association as a methodology. Their sources are footage and material hijacked from TikTok, YouTube, PrnHb and books, and everyday life.

Process and public events

The artistic process and public presentations did not take place solely at The Grey Space, but were realized in collaboration with several partners.

  • We organized a spectacular kick-off during HOOGTIJ, where KOSMOSE was presented for the first time in a gallery context on our ground floor. Alongside the performance, the entire ground floor of The Grey Space was transformed into the universe of Pensive Vivifier. They created an exhibition from their own archive featuring sound installations and video works.
  • A try-out of the club version of KOSMOSE was shown during Fusieclub, a collaboration between 18 organizations from The Hague’s nightlife scene that took place at The Grey Space. This version subsequently premiered during Freaky Dancing in Utrecht.
  • At Frascati, the theatre version of KOSMOSE was then revived for three sold-out performances.
  • We concluded the residency with an intimate performative dinner. Moderated by curator Ewa Scheifes, a table conversation was interspersed with food, a film screening, and a lecture. Participants met each other during an artistic dinner prepared by artist Mattia Papp. Psychologist Ángela Cáceres encouraged us to reflect on ways of creating space for other realities and modes of existence. A conversation with the makers and participants took us beyond our identities and toward alternative ways of transcending culture.
