After taking a break, the international sound series default den haag is happy to announce the opening event of their new season – returning to the Grey Space in the Middle on Wednesday, 21st of October with performances by Clara Levy & Victor Guaita Igual, Raviv Ganchrow, and Lauren Tosswill
At default#26, Clara Lévy (Violin) & Victor Guaita Igual (Viola) will present ‘Songs of Erosion’, a contemporary reinterpretation of Cantigas de Santa María, revisiting the 13th-century Spanish songbook through the lens of erosion.Their performance comes after their recent release on Discreet Editions, on which they articulated two Cantigas through concepts of sedimentation and landslide.
In Raviv Ganchrow’s presentation ‘Songing Thalassic’ – linking 1970s environmentalism, Cold War ocean surveillance, and emerging interspecies cultural imaginations – questions about the development of mammalian hearing and sounding underwater will be brought forward through various iterations of hearing whale ‘songs’. The presentation follows the recent completion of the first-ever documented recording of a whale song in the Strait of Magellan, conducted in the framework of Ganchrow’s ‘Whale Refractions’ research.
Concluding the program, Lauren Tosswill will be bringing her salient approach to sound performance to The Hague on her first European tour, presenting ‘Scores for Wednesday Evening for Men’s Ensemble Choir’, in which she will conduct a (locally sourced) choir of eight men hidden in a room adjacent to the stage.

Following a quieter year, this event marks the return of our regular programming in The Hague, with more events to be announced soon for the October 2026–June 2027 period.
