Presented by The Grey Space
We welcome multidisciplinary artist duo Charlie Jansen and Chloé Blansjaar for the seventh edition of our open-call-based program Filling the Void.
The artists take us on a sensory journey into the world of memories. Within their interactive installation “Echoic Memory” the duo explores the process of memory-making through sonic environments. Make sure not to miss your chance to experience this dreamlike work during the upcoming edition of Filling the Void.
“Echoic Memory” engages with the challenge of capturing and archiving memories for later recollection. Intrigued by the question of what makes them last, the work explores alternative ways of evoking memory through a sensory environment, rather than through the use of images. Using field recordings and a blend of personal and collective memories, the artists construct a sonic environment evoking a shared sense of familiarity and inducing a dreamlike state. The resulting interactive environment invites the viewer to contemplate, explore, listen and construct their own narrative based on these sounds.
Charlie Jansen and Chloé Blansjaar currently study at the St. Joost School of Art & Design, where they are part of the Photography, Film and the Digital department. Brought together through a mutual love for sound design and the wish to spark one’s imagination through sound, the two are gradually evolving outside of their field of study and seeking alternative ways to stem images in one’s mind through installations and sculptures. Alongside their shared love for sound, the artists are also keen on integrating social issues and human responses to them into their work. Rather than offering a direct translation of these problems, their collaborative practice aims to investigate the responses they elicit.
The exhibition opens at 17.00
Free entry.
