Program

Performance artist Karel van Laere is an artist in residence at The Grey Space. From September until November 2021 he works on his project Reach. Van Laere’s work takes place at the intersection of live performance and visual art. His own body is the starting point in every artistic process. A recurring theme in his work is the antagonism between the human body and technological systems.

The starting point of this three month residency is his fascination with laparoscopic instruments (robotic tools used for surgery). This try out takes the shape of a performance in which the instruments are transformed to human bodies.

In her work Eleni Ploumi is always looking for the dialogue between the body and the space and how that space fuels processes in the body. It is this intense experience that she shares with an audience.

Under the motto Killing Time, Eleni is working on a research project in which she examines physical limitations and how to break through them. Accompanied by her wooden bench, she travels along various cellars and vaults. Together with the audience she dives into a physical, energetic experience.
