DESIRE is a musical exploration of desire and the various ways of experiencing it, presented through an immersive performance. A mix of 20th century and contemporary classical music, minimal music, improvisation and literature performed by a string quartet.
After reading Kazuo Ishiguro’s ‘The Remains of the Day’ and Miranda July’s ‘All Fours’, violinist Vivian Giesbertz felt compelled to explore the experience of desire: everyone desires something—it’s as simple as the desire to eat when you’re hungry or the desire to sleep when you’re tired. But it can also be very complicated. Together with Marta Florit (violin), Gabriel Torner (viola), and Daniel Perales (cello) they form
a string quartet.
The four musicians met each other during their studies at the Conservatory of Utrecht, and have been playing since 2022. The musicians have a deep mutual understanding of their musical ideas, that is even stronger because of their friendship. All four have been classically trained, but each one of them has their own interests, which make them even more creative and versatile as a group.
