BELONGALONG arrives at The Grey Space with an interactive sonic and visual experience centered on connection, collective presence, and intentional listening. Guided through audiovisual compositions, participants encounter a unique collectively played instrument whose sounds and vibrations are felt throughout the body, transforming the audience into an essential part of the work itself.

Created by sound and visual performance artist Christopher Bowen, BELONGALONG invites strangers to connect through shared attention, curiosity, and collaboration. Moving between meditative calm and sensory intensity, the experience unfolds as a participatory environment where sound comes to life through collective intention and openness toward one another.

Bowen’s work draws from decades of experience in performance and experimental theatre, beginning with his long-standing involvement in the internationally acclaimed Blue Man Group, where he worked as performer, composer, writer, and creative development director. Through BELONGALONG, he continues his exploration of interactive group experiences that blur the boundaries between audience, performer, sound, and space.

Participants can join a session on Thursday June 11 at 19:00 or 21:00, followed by a short conversation with the organizers and participants. On Tuesday we will also have a try-out which will be open to public as well.

About

BELONGALONG was created by Christopher Bowen, a sound and visual performance artist, instrument inventor, musician, actor, and composer for film.

His explorations into interactive, immersive theatrical group experiences started in 1991 when he began his decades-long career with the internationally acclaimed and Grammy-nominated Blue Man Group. During this time, he was a Blue Man as well as a Creative Development Director, Writer and Composer for the Group. His film scores include Cannes Camera d’Or winner ‘Jellyfish’, the Annie-nominated stop-motion feature ‘$9.99’, and the documentary feature ‘Nathan-ism’, 2023 winner of DocAviv’s Yad Vashem award.

House Guests

This program is part of The Grey Space’s residency program House Guests in which we facilitate the interaction between a work, the space and the audience. Each House Guest has a week-long mini-residency, culminating in a public event.

This edition of House Guests is supported by the municipality of The Hague.
