CaDance presents: SENESCENCE
Hosted by Korzo
The body struggles to transcend itself. In SENESCENCE by Korzo housemaker Camiel Corneille, a man simultaneously grapples with both growth and decay. He cannot accept his own transformation. Is transience truly inevitable?
In a combination of virtuoso physical control and a kinetic installation, Camiel exposes the duality of his humanity: the effort to continue performing and the inevitable decline that accompanies it.
SENESCENCE is the scientific term for cellular ageing and an attempt by Camiel Corneille to counteract his transience and find an answer to society’s ideal of malleability. This is because artists grow older too, and this has an impact when you work with the body.
Camiel Corneille is a Dutch artist and circus creator. Camiel distinguishes himself within the circus field with his multidisciplinary approach and diverse works that explore our humanity. From 2025, Camiel will be one of the new housemakers at Korzo.

The theme of humanity forms a central thread in his most recent work. Camiel explores what it means to be human in relation to our creations (machines and technology) and our surroundings (intimacy), hoping to find an answer to the question, “What makes us human?” In doing so, he invites his audience to relate to the image in a completely different way and engage with his search. Circus is the tool for this quest, as Camiel sees it as having the potential to make the impossible seem possible.
