A philosophical debate on art and revolution with Sjeng Scheijen, Alhierd Bacharevic and Julia Cimafiejeva.

Program

Sjeng Scheijen is an Amsterdam-based slavist and multiple-prizewinning author of De avantgardisten, a Senior Research Fellow and Veni-laureate at Leiden University. He is also a historian of Soviet art and exhibition curator.

Alhierd Bacharevic is a leading Belarusian novelist and one of the founders of the literary and artistic avant-garde group Bum-Bam-Lit. The publishing house Lohvinaŭ published his over 900-page novel Dogs of Europe (Сабакі Эўропы, 2017), which is deemed to be the writer’s opus magnum. The novel received Belarus’s Book of the Year Award and the second Jerzy Gedroyc Prize.

Julia Cimafiejeva is a Belarusian poet and translator from English, Spanish and Portuguese. She is one of the founders and editors of the online magazine of translated literature PrajdziSviet (‘Pass the World’). Cimafiejeva is a member of the Belarusian PEN Center and of the Union of Belarusian Authors.
