8 Faces, 18 Edges, and 12 Vertices

Thu 23 January
→ Sun 26 January
09:30–17:30

The yearly exhibition of third year KABK students where 37 photography students show their latest explorations.

The exhibition explores the interplay between structure and fluidity, inspired by the hexagonal prism. The hexagon, a symbol of stability, and the prism, representing multiple perspectives, serve as metaphors for the collective’s approach to creativity. Through photography, the works invite viewers to engage with themes ranging from personal identity and family history to nature’s intricate perspectives and cultural rituals.

Each project invites the viewer to engage with various themes that create tension, not only within the artworks themselves but also looking for the interaction between the work and the audience. The works explore a full range of themes and approaches. Stretching from an investigation of the past of one’s grandmother through the rituals of cooking, the over-sexualised representation of one’s own identity, getting closer to the bee’s perspective, as well as looking into rituals and traditions for a sense of home.

Practical Information

The exhibition can be visited on the 23rd, 24th and 25th of January, between 09:30 and 17:30.

Organisation

The Solstice Collective is a group of 37 third year photography students at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. The solstice symbolizes new beginnings and a point of change, as we are an evolving and growing collective that adjusts and reacts to the developments in our world. We come together to create something beyond what we can do individually which results in a collection of stories connecting all our separate experiences.
