The Grey Space in the Middle - Code of Conduct and House Rules

The Grey Space aims to be an inclusive space that welcomes everyone. Our House Rules ensure the safety and wellbeing of everyone at The Grey Space and it applies to everyone including staff, guests, partners, tenants and artists. Cooperate, have an open attitude and be mindful of how this space is experienced differently by everyone and how your behavior influences others.

Code of Conduct

Our code of conduct applies to all visitors, staff members, volunteers, advisory board, presented artists, partners, sponsors, online and offline audience and participants.

  • Treat each other with respect.
  • Discrimination is not tolerated. This includes ridiculing, name-calling, inciting or victimising someone based on origin, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, behaviour, appearance or attire.
  • We encourage anyone experiencing discrimination at or related to The Grey Space to report the incident at denhaagmeldt.nl, The Hague municipality’s anti-discrimination platform.
  • Verbal and/or physical aggression, violence, assault, intimidation, harassment or bullying  is not tolerated.
  • Sexual intimidation -including making sexual allusions or pushing for physical contact- is not tolerated.
  • Damaging or theft of any of The Grey Space’s property or that of its staff or its visitors is not tolerated.
  • If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a staff member immediately. If a staff member engages in behavior that is not allowed, please contact another member of the staff. Our staff members are instructed to ensure the safety of visitors. Depending on the severity of the situation they may advise you contact the authorities and to file a report with the police.
  • When entering or leaving, please respect our neighbors and try to keep the noise down.
  • When the rules are not followed, we reserve the right to refuse entry, to give warnings, to remove you from the premises, ban future entry and/or report to the authorities or first responders.

Note for staff and artists: Anyone working at The Grey Space (staff members and artists) who want to disclose undesirable behaviour within the organization or speak to a confidential counselor, we advise to contact Mores.

House Rules

Our house rules apply to all visitors, staff members, volunteers, advisory board, presented artists, partners, sponsors, online and offline audience and participants.

House Rules – Outside

  • By entering The Grey Space you agree to follow instructions and to be searched by our staff or security. If you do not comply with this, entry will be refused. If you feel uncomfortable being searched by a specific team member, we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
  • Guests who are visibly drunk, on drugs, or rowdy and uncooperative will be refused entry.
  • Trade and possession of weapons (or sharp objects) or drugs is not allowed. If weapons or drugs are found you will be refused entry. We are obligated to uphold the law and contact authorities and first responders if necessary.
  • It is forbidden to bring any kind of liquid into the venue or to the terrace.
  • Please make the door staff aware of anything that is required for medical reasons.
  • The café and some events are accessible for all ages. For club nights and concerts the minimum age is 18 or 21 years. In case of doubt, identification can be requested. If you do not have this with you, access will be denied.
  • In case of full capacity or when attending with a group of over 4 people (due to the influence groups can have on the atmosphere) you are not guaranteed entry. 
  • Safer space events might have additional door policies in which marginalized groups are prioritized.
  • Please always respect the door staff, also if you are not getting in this time.

House Rules – Inside

  • No smoking inside, this includes vaping.
  • Alcohol is not sold to anyone under 18 years.
  • For the safety of visitors and staff we use camera surveillance.
  • The lightning plan used might be harmful for people with a history of epilepsy or strokes. The Grey Space is not liable for any harm or damage that might be caused as a result.
  • When inside, please use your phone as little as possible and don’t use a flash.
  • Before using professional camera equipment please contact our staff first.
  • The Grey Space is not liable for any lost items. Our wardrobe is unsupervised.
