This winter, brace yourself for the most ambitious dinner that artist and chef Mattia Papp has ever done. A full performative banquet and edible landscape, merging theatre, gastronomy, and visual art. The evening will unfold as an immersive dinner, inspired by myth, temptation, and rebirth, titled Dionysian Winter Feast. Think of it as The Great Party of the Gods: part ritual, part performance, part high-end Michelin-style dinner.

The dinner will be composed of seven acts, each with a distinctive narrative and sensory experience. The sequence follows a mythic arc, from desire and flirtation to storm, tenderness, and finally communal ecstasy. Each act includes its own atmosphere, lighting, visuals, and dishes.

Wine pairings are available during the dinner.

About

Mattia Papp (1993, Florence) graduated in 2017 from the Royal Acadamy of Art in The Hague (KABK). In his work he combines Renaissance and Baroque aesthetics with contemporary themes to create new myths for the modern world. His work consists of sculptures, paintings and video installations with theatricality as a core element.

Since 2019 he has incorporated food into his practice through performances called Edible Landscapes where set designs reminiscent of Vanitas converge into edible compositions. Mattia: “Food is a powerful tool to foster connections and transcend social differences. I believe that through this medium, we can bridge gaps between diverse societal classes, incomes, religions, and cultural backgrounds.”

From 2017 on Mattia has been participating in multiple exhibitions and artfairs in and outside of The Netherlands, and in 2023 he was part of PROSPECTS at Art Rotterdam. Besides making his own art he is a Fine Arts tutor at KABK (The Hague) in ‘Food design and art’ and he works on commission in theatre as a scenographer.

House Guests

This program is part of The Grey Space’s residency program House Guests in which we facilitate the interaction between a work, the space and the audience. Each House Guest has a week-long mini-residency, culminating in a public event.

This edition of House Guests is supported by the municipality of The Hague and Cultuurfonds, Haagse Bluf Fonds.
