Mijn woord tegen het mijne (My Word Against Mine) — a documentary directed by Maasja Ooms and winner of the Best Dutch Film Award, IDFA 2025 — follows five people who hear voices.
After its screenings during the Movies That Matter Festival, the Grey Space transforms into a communal conversation where, over the course of two hours, a moderator guides the dialogue between mental health professionals, voice hearers, their families, and the audience.
The conversation intends to explore new ways of understanding voices: when we listen carefully, what can they tell us? Are they less unfamiliar than we think? How can we support voice hearers so that they feel heard and have agency in their care?
Please note that this conversation is intended for people who have already seen the film Mijn woord tegen het mijne. We strongly recommend watching the documentary beforehand. Tickets to see the film can be purchased via the button below.

Cerutti Film and documentary filmmaker Maasja Ooms, together with the protagonists of the film, organise a series of two-hour meet-ups in five cities. The gatherings bring together mental health professionals, voice-hearers, and policymakers to discuss current approaches to hearing voices.
Many voice-hearers feel unseen in the existing system, which often offers too little variation in forms of care. The meet-ups advocate for a more diverse and transparent care landscape that recognises multiple pathways and gives voice-hearers real agency. Using the film as a starting point, the organisers question the status quo and open a dialogue on what humane, appropriate and pluriform care for voice-hearers can look like in practice.
