Who is it for? – This workshop is aimed at people with little to no knowledge of lighting systems, but a lot of drive to DIY and craft custom objects with light. If you want to experiment how light interacts with different spaces and materials, or if you want to give a special shade to your event on a budget, this workshop is for you!

What to bring? – For this workshop you will need to bring your own laptop. You will take home a DIY light controller to use with led strips. You are encouraged to bring any materials such as paper, textiles, etc to experiment with light, as well as any lamp or light you might want to learn how to use.

Included: DIY controller + 5m LED strip.

What will we be doing? – We will work hands-on, using low-cost devices and computers to control lights. Avoiding expensive light consoles, we will learn how to improvise a light design concept together, and build it up for a collective light jam afterparty here at The Grey Space!

About Luca Tornato

Luca Tornato (b. 1997 in São Paulo, BR) is an interdisciplinary time-based media artist with works divided into three stems: video surveillance, artivism, and light design. Each stem is an investigation into the politics and materiality of light-mediated practices. With installations, AV performances, workshops, and public demonstrations, he searches for tactics and tricks to critically approach non-human agents, legal systems and spaces.
