As a host, you would be working a hybrid role where smoothing operations is one of your greatest strengths. The following are also part of what a host could get their hands on while volunteering at certain events.

As ticketing by the entrance, you would be the first face of The Grey Space. Greet visitors, help them navigate through the space when necessary and scan tickets.

Here, you would be responsible for the visitors’ personal belongings. By providing a seamless arrival and departure experience, ensure that items are quickly tagged, secured and correctly returned to the respective owners.

For those events where catering is involved, organisers may need extra hands while setting up. The idea is to make the space presentable and later assist serving or bartending by clearing empty plates, refilling drinks and attending to visitors.

This role is crucial to establish awareness and safety for everyone involved so attendees can enjoy the space without fear of harassment, assault or intimidation. Floor angels are dedicated to monitor the environment and support the team where necessary. It is important that you get an awareness team training before volunteering as one.

There may be roles available to provide assistance with the space setup or takedown of events and exhibitions, or with the technicians which include sound and lighting preparation, or assembling and dismantling of the equipment.

– You are enthusiastic and curiosity driven.
– You enjoy social environments and interacting with guests.
– You have an affinity with or interest in – cultural spaces, contemporary art and design, experimental music, and club culture.
– You have strong communication skills and you work well in a team.
– You are hands-on, proactive, and solution-oriented.
– You have a good command of the English language both in speech and in writing.
– Dutch comprehension is a plus.
– You preferably live in the The Hague region.

Volunteers must conform to our Code of Conduct to ensure a safe space for all visitors and employees.

– All candidates are financially compensated with a volunteer fee.
– You will have first hand experience in the management of an events and culture space.
– Volunteers will become part of a well connected network and experience dynamic arts and culture programs.
– Volunteers will gain exclusive perks to The Grey Space club nights and events.

– The volunteer fee provided by The Grey Space is in line with the legal expectations in The Netherlands. For more information on the rules and regulations you may click here.
– It is the responsibility of candidates to familiarize themselves with the House Rules of The Grey Space and make sure that they abide by them.
