Studio Dull x IDFA
Presented by International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) and The Grey Space.
A new interactive installation by our Open Space resident Constant Dullaart premiers at this year’s edition of IDFA, which is simultaneously shown at Studio Dull. Come by The Grey Space to enjoy ‘Social Bouquet’, and experience Dullaart’s research from up close.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Constant Dullaart built his own platform in response to existing social media: a peaceful meadow in which the visitors are all flowers. Together they form a social bouquet, like the installation’s name. In line with his research, he utilizes this platform as a tool. Hop in the meadow from The Grey Space and experience an alternative form of social media by becoming a blooming flower.
Visit the installation during our regular opening hours.
Free entry.
Artist Paulien Oltheten analyzes human behavior in public space, often in direct contact with passers-by. With an eager sense of curiosity, she seeks out situations that allow her to highlight poetic or rhythmic details in the form of photography and video, notes, publications, lectures, and performances.
Aaron Moulton works with contemporary art, artists, and art worlds by building different frameworks of context in order to analyze cultural phenomena. This is accomplished through curatorial work, writing, and anthropological research.
Amsterdam based lawyer Gabi van Driem established herself as the first feminist lawyer and brought several groundbreaking jurisprudence to her name, including the restraining order jurisprudence (now called stalking).
Musician Jan Willem Hagenbeek is the driving force behind electronic musical instruments company Ginkosynthese. With Ginkosynthese he designs and builds modules that bridge the gap between the feel of playing live on stage and the more controlled environment when working in the studio for productions.
This year marks the 35th edition of the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam. From November 9th until November 20th, and contains a trend-setting program of films, talks, performances, and interactive and immersive projects.
IDFA strives to strengthen the international documentary climate by stressing documentary film as being an art form. This focus includes films with an original visual language or structure, films that show lesser-known cultures or are filmed from a non-Western perspective, and interactive or immersive documentaries that innovate the field.
Artist Constant Dullaart is developing a new work entitled Studio Dull as part of his three-month Open Space residency at The Grey Space. Like no other, Constant Dullaart plays with the notion of what a medium is and searches for the human origins of technological phenomena and structures. With his often political approach, he makes us reconsider what we as users and consumers have become blind to. Studio Dull focuses on the authorship that is hidden in tools in the form of a hybrid broadcasting station.
