Alles Moet Weg
Presented by Het Nationale Theater
In his latest ‘living installation,’ theater maker and visual artist Dries Verhoeven explores shoplifting. Everything must go, but for what benefit?
In a time when we like to display our good behavior, Verhoeven turns his gaze toward the socially undesirable. How exemplary are we really when we believe we’re unobserved, for instance, at the self-checkout? Dries spoke with more and less privileged people who occasionally “forget” to pay for something, with thieves in detention, and with those who view theft as a form of resistance. He invited the proletarian shoppers and self-proclaimed “Robin Hoods” to self-reflect. The result is a grim depiction of the dark depths of our moral conduct.
