7.8.7.5 Fundraiser / Gathering
Presented by: Zeynep Yılmaz and Ruby Lee
A fundraiser and political, discursive, artistic gathering organised by writer and performer Zeynep Yılmaz and artist and curator Ruby Lee, in light of the devastating 6th of February earthquakes hitting Turkey, Syria and surrounding regions.
The organizing team and the collaborating artists and iniatives aim to bring forth yet again the question of art and politics in regards to solidarity during times of local and global crises. Although the earthquake relief needs financial support not only immediately but also on the long run, the event prioritizes information flow and discussion about the affected regions. It also aims to create a platform for those who may share similar traumatic experiences, regardless of their backgrounds.
The fundraiser event presents an exhibition, performances, readings, video screenings, an object and art print sale, a second-hand clothing sale, a special edition publication of ‘2512’, a livestream panel talk and freshly-made snacks. Live performances include reading sessions of poetry and about the Global South, along with heartfelt speeches. Video art and photo installations incorporate imagery to raise awareness. Participatory activities are also encouraged in this time of solidarity, where people are invited to come together in cooking sessions and enveloppe making. Furthermore, a notebook will be present to collect messages, letters, wishes and any other textual expression during the fundraiser.
